Majda Barbara Povše, Ph.D.

Majda Barbara Povše is expert associate of the Institute. She teaches Technology of Food and Beverages at a college and is a registered researcher. She is a member of national commissions on the preparation of specific legislation and of the national tasting commission for expert assessment of fruit juices, syrups and non-alcoholic beverages. She also participates in the Landscape park Goričko and is a member of the Development and EU Affairs Committee with the Chamber of Commerce of Slovenia. She is cooperating with UNESCO schools in Slovenia in the healthy nutrition in primary schools project. She developed numerous recipes and technological improvements and received several awards for her innovations. Before retirement, she worked at Radenska, d.d. as a development technologist, head of development laboratory and the research unit. She also coordinated research at Radenska on ecology, geology and technology in cooperation with numerous other university research units. She actively participated in the international project COPERNICUS (Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia), PHARE 3D project (Austria, Hungary, Slovenia), etc. She was the CEO of the Slovenian National Association of Natural Mineral Bottled Water Producers, which is a member of the European Association of Natural Mineral Bottled Water Producers (GISEM-UNESEM) and the vice-president of the Association of Food and Nutrition Experts in northeast Slovenia, of which she is also the honorary president. She is an active member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences of Pomurje. She acquired experience as a consultant in the designing of new health resorts in Slovenia and Hungary and as an entrepreneur dealing with the extraction of high quality walnut and poppy vegetable oils and by participating at international congresses.

As an expert on bio-food, she is interested in the exceptional nutritional value of cannabis, from the seeds to other parts of the plant. She actively studied this topic, taking into consideration the modernization of the legal regulation in the area. As a member of the institute, she assists in the development of recipes for new food products made of cannabis and the improvement of current products.

Majda Barbara Povše graduated from Biotechnical Faculty Ljubljana, Department for Food Technology. She continued her post-graduate studies at the same faculty and acquired her Ph.D. in food technology under the mentorship of prof. dr. Jože Drinovec from the Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana.
